Zürich Airport (ZRH)

Updated: Nov 13, 2020

Here it is, dear readers, my favorite airport in the world.

Hub for: Edelweiss Air, Swiss International Airlines. Connection.

Current Grade: A+ (June 2019)

We connected here between New York and Italy in both directions, and as sad as I was when that vacation was over, I was honestly excited for our couple hours in the peaceful, surrounded-by-green-rolling-Swiss-hills efficient urban oasis of Switzerland's largest airport.

First, it's quiet. I don't really know how they do it. The restrooms and amenities are easy to find, the design is lovely (wood and concrete), and there are fun luxurious Swiss watch shops so well-cared-for the carpet had vacuum lines in the pristine navy carpet. Vacuum lines!

Secondly, it's really convenient. We had a few hours on layover first thing in the morning, trying to get and stay awake after the overnight flight from New York, and we took the civilized and organized train into the center of the city (seriously, 15 minutes), got a coffee and a pastry and strolled the city. Then we hopped back on the train and got on our flight to Rome. The whole thing was peaceful and straightforward. Honestly, I'd book a layover here again anytime!
